I don't know the reason why Sandy Casar is higher than Danielson on GC.
Quite frankly, it doesn't bother me as to why Casar is higher than Danielson or anyone else for that matter.

What matters to me is the use of labels and the intent to start flame wars here.

Based on previous experience - when posters start shouting the odds about "french" or "american" riders, it's time to step in.

fair enough Lim, I just posted the Monty Pythin reference becasue I assumed it was on obvious joke. I was also trying to make a joke to avoid the obvious nationalistic stuff, but you're right movin on.

Based on what I've read of your posts I would doubt it, but lets let bygoens be bygones.

Halgand rode well today which meana two French riders in topa 20 ! Amercian boy Thomas lost more time to Casar today and by tomorow Halgand pass Mr. Danialson on GC. This threada is about Dicsvery not French vs US but Pena who ist Discvery reject is past TD on GC. French press say now that two speed cycling is almost at ende. Mr.D has not been Casar at any etape at Giro. even trials time. French press says riders do not want to ride with Bruyneel becase of history and way of manger.

But I wasn't using those labels. That's my point. 😎

And factually one of the reasons that Sandy Casar is high up on GC is he went on that one successful breakaway where he gained chunks of time, and one of the strategic reasons he was permitted to do that so early on in the Giro is because he was not perceived as a podium threat. That was my point.

Casar and Danielson finished on the same time today, 4:16 behind Garate. They finished on the same time yesterday. OK, got curious, let's go back... Danielson finished in front of Casar in the stage 11 TT. Danielson finished over two minutes in front of Casar in stage 13.

What are you babbling about? I'm no big fan or defender of Danielson or Discovery, but what are you babbling about?

Hmm, you started posting in these forums yesterday, maybe you have missed seeing all of the Giro until yesterday! 🙂

Wow big result, a pitty that they didn't manage to get the leaders jersey, which is still in the hands of the Dutch Skil-Shimano rider (forgot his name). Great news that Disco can compete with the Europe-Continental team Skil-Shimano....

Okay, it's a good result, but the Tour of Belgium isn't a big race....

Well that's kinda my point. Its not a huge race but a fairly big one and certainly big for Belgians. Point being, why did Hoste and Devolder miss the big break on the first day since with the ITT they could have taken the overall?

9. They already apologized to Demol for that. They know they should have made that break.

10. Appears that Bruyneel has reasesed his thoughts on TommyD performing in a GT after the diaster that was the Giro for Tom.

"He has combination of time-traling and climbing that you need to be a contender in major tours..." He finished in the top ten in his first full major tour and that was really good to see, but we're not going to raise our expectations too high either. We have to be realistic."

Out with a sore knee last year TommyD gave up this year with suposed illness. DC now face facts that the boy just doesn't cut it.

At least Ullrich can ride with a sore knee and completed the 2004 Tour de France with the flu.

It was a alwful Giro for DC - Il Falco did nothing and finished an amazing 20 minutes off the pace ! and lost his fourth place to Cuengo on the second to last stage. TD was falling further and further back and to save embarresment they pulled him from the Giro.

DC are still in disarray.

11. American boy not finish race! He has weak heart! Two frenchman in topa 20 ! two more thana american boys. predicte thate more French riders in top 20 in Tour de france than american boys.

Casar not havee teame like US DC et comes 6 !

And they all did better than the riders from Taiwan so let's move on and get back to bashing the Discovery Channel team.

Congrats! I hope you feel better about yourself as a person because a frenchman finished 6th in a race and an american dropped out. Enjoy the weekend! Enjoy your life! Have fun, spend more time on forums and make up wrong facts to post!

I don't know if you saw Stage 20 - but again Savoldelli was left alone to try to recoup against Simoni : Rubiera blew completely on the lower slopes of the Mortirolo.
Savoldelli was alone (again).
Poor support for the DC leader.

If TD had gotten in a late break and gotten up to, say, 7th overall; you'd be going on about Bruyneel's brillian tactics...

Agree, but all the leaders were alone at that point except Piepoli/Simoni, thats why the big lead out by Sastre and Gustov WAS just like Chechu and Azevedo for Lance.

But the race was too hard on everyone, and plus I think riders perform worse when they are being asked to help a failing rider.
As opposed to say asking them to help a rider whose name will be in all the history books, when you know your lead out on Alpe d'Huez will be the most famous mountain lead out of all time and you in your own right will become a rock star after dropping every other rider in the race except Lance Jan or Basso etc etc
Just ask Chechu and Azevedo!

17. While I agree Savo ended up being alone more than he should have been, given the "on paper" climbing abilities of some of his domestiques (Beltran was particularly underperforming), I'd have to say that the main problem Savo kep on losing time in the mountains was Savo himself.

Whether he actually had allergies or just couldn't cut it any more when he got to the mid-to-high climbs (and sadly for him some of the lower climbs), I don't know. So I think Savo should shoulder as much of the "blame" (if there is any) for not getting on the podium as his mountain domestiques.

Chechu was a bit more reliable on TD, and even TD was better than the non-existent-in-the-mountains Beltran. I think Beltran is going to be let go of after this season, unless he really does wonders helping in the Vuelta.

I don't believe Chechu, Beltran and TD were not sufficiently motivated, because Savo was having problems. After all, Savo is the defending champion. Chechu has a lot of professionalism, and Beltran probably knows he is fighting against Bruyneel dropping him. TD is fighting for his own sake on GC and to prove he can be DC team leader in the Vuelta. So, they were certainly motivated for different reasons.

18. Discovery Channel Management have set up a phone help line to assist fans of the team to overcome the abysmal display at the Giro.

The number is: 1800 10 10 10 - won nothing, won nothing, won nothing.... :p :p :p

Very funny

20. Well, DC won 1 stage and has the blue jersey (Combination Classification) in Milan.

TM won 1 stage, and has no jersey in Milan.

Hmm, then, I wonder what we should say to TM -- whatever outcome DC achieved, TM achieved less. Sure, people will say JU wasn't really trying. But that is always his excuse. If one never targets anything but the Tour de France, and hasn't won the Tour since 1997, is one absolved of poor performances in all the other races one doesn't target? :p
