  1. Its a serious question... Tonight I went on my longest run
to date, and about 3/4 of the way through, my testicles
really started to ache. By the end of the run, my abdomen
had a dull ache from about my belly button down. I wear
boxer briefs and shorts when I run. I've never encountered
this pain before, but then, I've never run for as long as
    I just did.

I'm not a sports kind of a guy, and I've never worn an
athletic support, but my assumption is that it keeps the
testicles from bouncing around, which is what I suspect is
    causing the pain.

Sorry for being so candid, but I *really* enjoyed my run
tonight, a first for me, I have an ear-to-ear grin, a real
sense of accomplishment. Only problem, instead of icing down
my shins, I'm icing down something else!

Thanks for any words of advice.

I just run in cheap briefs, or some other moderately
restrictive underwear (Speedo swimming trunks are good
too). As you get older, gravity affects your tackle, and
the rather flimsy liner in most running shorts is not up
    to the job.

I am not a man so I have no idea if my concern is valid...
maybe other runners (male) could comment. Have you had a

Your own experience suggests you need support. I feel
blessed I can go out running in my running shorts with
nothing more than their thin netting to counter gravity.
The fact that you can't suggests you are blessed in
    other ways 😉.

You don't say what kind of boxers or shorts you're using.

Running shorts have a brief liner that works well enough for
    most guys.

There are boxers that are meant for running that should give
you support as good as most briefs. There are also various
running briefs. I've tried briefs from HIND and Champion.
The HIND ones were very good, the Champion ones were awful.
I only use this for winter (for extra warmth)

I suspect the car jump-starting cables clamped onto your
nuts could be the cause too. Release those and they'll feel
    better right away.

  8. I think you meant "atrophied" and "moot". If your going to
be a [censored] about a [censored], at least be accurate.

  9. Stop whining. I'm sure any problem you have in the genital
    region is a small one.

  10. I'm surprised no one has suggested the simple $5 lightweight
swim/jog supporter. I experience similar discomfort when the
testicles are bounced and pinched between the legs and I
find these to be the best answer-- far more comfortable than
compression shorts or the standard supporters.

Remember nature intended all the undergear to be open and
free - support is not natural. Running and dangling is
    natural...

  12. Well... considering that you have zero support with boxer
shorts... you probably don't need anything more than plain
old briefs or a pair of running shorts with a built-in
    brief liner.

I'm a man, but I no longer have a prostate. Got it removed
1/12/04 after it caught cancer. 8) However, before that It
was pretty large (50gm), and I never had a problem. It's
located next to the rectum, quite far from the testicles, so
it's unlikely to cause that problem.

It's possible to have a twisted testicle, though, and this
is a serious condition. From what I understand it's quite
painful, and because it cuts off circulation, can cause
    infection leading to gangrene.

I wonder if the problem could be caused by being held too
snug, causing some twisting. Perhaps somewhat looser
clothing would allow a twist to return to the natural
    position? Just a guess.
