Do you love or loathe up-hill, off-road biking?

I love to cycle up hill, but I hate roads and traffic. I live in the French Alps, so hills are a fixture I cannot avoid and riding on the roads is just terrifing during the summer.. and well, in the winter, well, it's a little slippery.

I am keen to know how many women actually enjoy up-hill biking in an off-road environment and how far you would typically cycle in such an environment?
