I don't tailgate, that's called drafting. When the lanes go from 3 down to 1, I make sure I'm near
the front, ready for the sprint.

  10. I think being a cyclist, competitive or non-competitive helps being a better driver. Being a cyclist
on the roads gives a certain perspective of being a vulnerable road user and how sometimes, those in
the motorised metal cages seem to lose all brain function and vision. As a result, when I happen to
be in my motorised metal cage, I am acutely aware of non-motorised road users and give them space
and consideration. I think anyone who is done for a driving offence and has their driving licence
taken away from them should be made to travel by bicycle for an entire year, in all weathers, on the
roads, before they can be considered for having their driving licence handed back to them.

That would have an added benefit of reducing the waistlines of some fatasses you find in cars.

If it were a prime prize the correct spelling would be "break".

My cycling doesn't help, or hurt, my driving. I drive very differently than I bike.

  15. Situational awareness. If you can race, you have a better capacity for integrating what's going on
    around you.

...or never needs to use the brakes due to poor aerodynamics and excessive rolling resistance.

Jeez, Helen you're being a lot more lenient in this NG - in uk.rec.cycling genital removal is the
    usual sanction for motoring offences...
