I was quite happy with Finish Line and Pedros until I repented.
What's left has sat on the shelf only to test my ability to resist
temptation, but sometimes late at night I get the jitters, and I click
to Sheldon Brown/Jobst Brandt.com, and He helps me make it till
morning. I think, given that it washes right off in the wet, it
probably doesn't matter much which mainstream dry lube you use. Just
reapply after rain or when it squeaks.

There is no "latest". Wax or oil, take your pick. Has been discussed
ad nauseum. I use wax on my city bike, as it leaves less schmutz on my
pants, but when short season comes, I'll use oil on it. I like
automotive gear oil mixed 2:1 with mineral spirits, an interpretation
of a recipe I got on here. Drip it on, then work it into the chain
with a few backpedals, finally wipe the outside of the chain as dry as
possible with a rag. It lasts a long long time.

Ken,

I use Finish Line Dry, because I like the large aerosol can with the
red straw. I like the lube to go exactly where I have in mind,
especially derailleur pivot points.

IMHO, the most important issue is to clean and lube the chain
correctly, and frequently. How often this is done, depends on your
riding conditions. Here is what I do:

In my repair stand, I first clean the chain in situ with an old t-
shirt (back-pedal). I then spray a generous amount of lube onto the
chain as you back-pedal. Back-pedal at a fast rate. Then use the t-
shirt to remove ALL lube on the outside of the chain. The ONLY
necessary lube is between the rollers and the pins, which you cannot
touch directly. Outside lube just attracts dirt, which tends to work
its way inside the chain, which defeats your purpose - J.
