dura ace threadless headset

That's an excellent headset. Doubt that its anything special, I bet its
a modified threaded headset. Do a search, you'll find its pretty easy
to do.

Before King sponsored US Postal, it used Dura Ace and XTR threaded
headsets. It made them into 1" and 1.125" threadless headsets for
their forks by grinding off the threads. There were articles and
comments about this on the Cycling News website.

I had the machine shop chamfer the threaded Dura Ace cup to match the
ring-wedge of the threadless stem assembly. It still has its octagon
wrench flats and looks like old times but is located and arrested by
the split cone washer pushed into place by the clamped stem. Just
measure the cone washer angle and bore out the threads at that angle.

I bought my wife's frame used and it had a DA headset and threadless
fork. I think that they drillled out the threads on the hs and then
used it with a star nut and threadless fork.

Maybe there use a adaptor from Reset, to konvert any Shimano cart HS to
a "Ahead"

the headset has no wrench flats on it (and honestly looks too nice to
have been modified.

They don't from shimano. Somebody machined the threads outta the top
cap and made it threadless, Not unusual at all.
