its fairly light, was fairly cheap.
I seem to be having a few squeak issues between my stem and bars but I am guessing that's some downfall in my setup and my sheer power 🙄 . (must get around to some dedicated shed-time to address that... ). Oh yeah. Its black too.
If i ever do any longer riding I might contemplate turning thing over for a more comfy position.

Its not as sexy as SuzyJ's DIY stem tho 🙁

I've recently acquired a set of stainless Henry James lugs, for the next bike.

So far I've polished up the seat-lug, and cut a cute little love-heart into it. It looks very sexy.

I've also got a set of Llewellyn stem-lugs, also in stainless, so my poor fingers are gonna ache big-time.

On top of that, I scored a pair of old track bikes last week, which need some TLC. Blimey, I've got some work ahead of me.

welded aluminium stems are bikie russian roulette!

ive had one of these "fail" on me as i was sprinting, plunging me over the bars. The replacement began squeaking 2 months later and i checked out the weld and it was rapidly moving from a D- to a big Fail.

They were both ITM's.

IMHO, its forged alloy or no alloy at all...

im not sure what you tip the scales at dutch (im a cuddly 87kg) but i would endeavour to check the welds every so often. Ive had the bad experience so im off them.

What does one look for when 'checking welds' ?

Those are cooler than the coolest cool thing that I've seen for quite a while. Especially the Airlite, although I've heard about what happens if a wood rim lets go. I'm jealous.

buldges, depressions

It isn't just the weld itself, but beside the weld that you need to
examine closely. If I remember my material science properly, metal in
the world is usually strong, but metal beside/near the weld can be heat
affected and weakened in properties. Also, a badly done weld can
"undercut" the adjoining metal. leaving a weak zone.

Bends in the forks and kinks in the down tube are the most common fault
I find. Basically, if you can see a kink (hill), then that frame is
stuffed. It is just a matter of time.

i give the handlebars a good yank each way, essentially simulating what you would be doing when you would be sprinting. If you can see nice shiny alloy, you have a winner that needs to be replaced ASAP. For me, it has always been where the weld and alloy interface, not actually on the weld. Creaking is always a possible indication.
