  1. I've been doing Atkins for a while and never noticed a difference in my mild
acne, even though I was losing weight. A few weeks ago I started eating
less to go along with the lc. Since then my skin (and redness) have cleared
up a lot. I haven't changed anything else (soaps, etc), so is this a known
positive after effect of low carb + eating less?

  2. Perhaps it's a case of no longer getting an excess of some nutrient(s).
For example, I react to too much iodine in my diet by breaking out. I
added a lot of soy to my diet when I went LC and read that soy inhibits
iodine. So I started taking iodine supplements. Within a few weeks, I was
breaking out more than usual. I stopped the iodine supplements and my face
cleared up. I'm obviously getting enough iodine in my diet even with the
added soy and don't need more.
Maybe you've been reacting to some nutrient all along and by reducing the
amount you're getting, it's had a positive effect on your skin.
If you've been keeping track of your diet in FitDay, you could look at the
Nutrition panel over several days to see which nutrients have been lowered.
Unfortunately, FitDay doesn't track iodine, but it's a thought.

My wife noticed this when she started LC and did some reading up. It's
partly due to a higher overall intake of better fats. Essential fatty
acids are good for the skin (remember this if your pet has skin troubles).
Partly also due to higher intake of vitamin-rich veggies. She also
concluded that LC in and of itself benefitted the skin, mostly likely
noticeable in people susceptible to yeast overgrowth on a high carb diet.

She swears that her complexion (which I always thought was just about
perfect) improved enormously after the first several months of LC.
