So is anyone planning to sell a Shimano 9 spd rear derailleur and/or
some bar end shifters?

I want to replace the gripshifts on the bent and those are what I need
to do so....

Bar end? I *think* they were an addon for XTR a few years ago. But flat
bar shifters should be fairly easy to get hold of from eBay or farkin.net.
That said, you could go X7 from Torpedo& for a bit over $100, which isn't
bad. Keeping the Gripshift for the front keeps the price down, and if you
*really* want the front I can probably hunt something out of the shed you
can have for $buggerall.

Slight OT here (and I know you aren't selling any), but I was looking
at Ebay recently for cheap knicks and have noticed sellers selling
*used* knicks.

Triggers won't work because I'm likely to hit them with my legs which
go between the tweener bars on the Giro. Plus I'm told by those who
have them that the different angle of your hands on the bars makes
them harder to use than on flat bars.

If you hold your forearms parallel to the ground with your hands at
a natural angle (that is hand relaxed, thumb on top and more or less
on a straight line along the forearm) then that's about the hand/arm
angle of the bars.

So to twist the hand with gripshifters or to move the thumb trigger on
triggers is a bit more difficult than on flat bars, especially if you
have small hands.

I could keep the grip for the front, but I doubt 2 bar ends and cables
are much cheaper or easier to find than one, and I don't have to change
the front derailleur for barends I'm told. Plus I find that twist harder
to do when changing up than the rear change.

I've seen some bar ends on ebay in overseas ebay stores, but none
locally. There are some derailleurs too on ebay, but I suspect I
should buy them from an LBS as I think I'm going to want the LBS to
fit them.

I can buy the whole lot from Flyingfurniture if I want to try fitting
them myself, but if I can get 2nd hand....

The position sounds perfect for barends, exactly the same as a time trial bike. You can buy shimano 8/9 speed dura-ace barends for around $100 new (and $120 for 10spd) or less on ebay. The front is friction shift so will work with anything. The rear is indexed, but can be switched to friction mode with a ring on the side of the shifter.

Couldn't find any on ebay by Australian sellers.

I don't want friction really, I like index! (used friction for years,
won't go back...)

I think the $80 or so for a bottom end Deore derailleur is something
I'm prepared to pay to keep indexed shifting.

Greenspeed use them for their trikes, although as the trikes are under
seat steering the bar ends are at the thumb end of the bar, not the
little finger end.

That is I couldn't find any 9 speed ones.

A few 10 speed but as I want indexing I dunno that will work.

Time to check park tools site for a tutorial on replacing derailleurs
I guess.... as I can get all the kit but it's a bit rude I suspect to
take the parts to an LBS to get them to install them.
