Whats the point of electronic groupsets if theyre just going to be as unreliable as the riders who use them? I mean, how many times have we seen pros abandon races due to mechanicals, only to blame the componentry instead of their own incompetence? And dont even get me started on the average joe who cant even be bothered to read the manual, yet expects their Shimano or SRAM to perform flawlessly.
If were being honest, electronic groupsets are just a bunch of overpriced, overhyped nonsense that only serve to separate the wannabes from their hard-earned cash. And whats the benefit, really? A few grams shaved off the overall weight? A slightly quieter ride? Please, Id rather have a reliable, mechanical setup that doesnt leave me stranded on the side of the road.
So, I ask you, electronic groupset aficionados: whats the real advantage of going electronic, aside from the ego boost of being able to say youve got the latest and greatest? Is it really worth the risk of mechanical failure, not to mention the outrageous cost? Or are you all just drinking the Kool-Aid, convinced that electronic is inherently better simply because its newer and flashier?
