Ergopower problem.

Uhm. Is the rear derailleur moving? Is the cable? If the cable isn't
moving, it's not broken or disengaged at the shifter, or anything else
obvious, then the problem must be in the shifter itself. Be sure you know
what you're doing if you open that up, I hear that lots of little bits
fall and jump out which you need to not lose 🙂

The derailer moves fine if I manually push it and the cables are OK too.
The problem is in the lever for sure.

Try pulling up on the thumb button. On my Veloces, if you shift to the
small cog and then press down on the thumb button again, it stays down
about a quarter of a click and locks out the movement of both levers. I've
gotten in the habit of pulling the button back up manually when I upshift
to avoid any problems (not that I'm in the small cog all that often
anyway).

every ergo i've ever had has had a problem with the thumb lever. i think
i just generate a lot more corrosive sweat than campy ever dreamed a
human could, and it falls down into the pivot of the thumb lever and
gunks it up (and rusts it if i don't get in there with oil often enough).

if that's your problem with that lever, i lay the bike down and go at
the pivot with wd-40, a-workin' and a-squirtin' until it moves freely.
then i hit it with some oil to delay the next time i'll have to do
that. while you're there, slime up the brake QR. they have a bad
tendency to get corroded in place too.

ergos can also get jammed when both thumb and finger levers are
engaged simultaneously. if the thumb lever is getting stuck due
to gunkiness, maybe you're getting "ergolock".

Yes, this is exactly what is happening. Thanks for the insight. But it
never used to do this, so maybe as another poster suggested it needs
some lubricant. I'll mess with it tomorrow.

I'll definitely lubricate the thumb lever as well as the QR.
The thumb lever is staying down which is locking both levers.

I would ensure that the cable moves smoothly thru the housing thruout,
the under BB guilde is clean, lubed and the inner wire is not fraying
at the lever. Also make sure the thumb button is not fouled by the bar
tape or the brake hood.

The thumb lever pivot had some corrosion on it, which prevented it from
springing back up to the neutral position, so its ratchet engagement
tooth was not releasing from the ratcheting wheel. This prevented the
ratcheting wheel from rotating when the up-shift lever was pressed.

WD-40, a toothbrush, and manual manipulation got the thumb lever
springing back freely. I then greased it.

Not Campy. Look for instructions (Branford will sell you some for $5;
it's also in Zinn's book). There are lots of little pieces in there,
sure. However, most of them form sub-assemblies, and they do NOT fall
and jump out. When you do a re-build, you will get the impression that
you are really only dealing with about 6-7 parts.
