You are one in a million! Road biking, it seems to me, is more enjoyable, anyway
-- less jarring, injury, etc. I enjoy the scenery while biking, & don't have to
pay so much attention to controlling the bike (I avoid areas where there is
motor vehicle traffic).

I also have had a lot of discussions about hiking with a few friends and a lot
of the research that I've done about hiking causing a lot of the same type of
damage that mountain biking causes. Mainly from what I've seen is hiking boots.
Would you suggest any other type of activity that wouldn't destroy the
environment? Stay out of the woods right?
Yes. Obviously, we need to experience nature in order to appreciate it. However,
equally obviously, we need to stay out of it, to protect the wildlife. BOTH are
true. We don't need to go there so often, nor travel so far in it.
However, hiking is a lot less harmful than mountain biking (per person per
trip), because hikers travel mush shorter distances and impact the ground much
less. A hiker would avoid stepping on a snake that a biker would probably crush.
I have never used lug-soled boots. They seem silly to me. Flat soles do less
damage.

destroying the earth and although the amount of people that are trying to save
the earth is very small, I do believe that they are making a difference.
I quite agree. That kind of thinking is spreading. See

I am working on creating wildlife habitat that is off-limits to
humans ("pure habitat"😉. Want to help? (I spent the previous 8
years fighting auto dependence and road construction.)
