A little OT maybe............ I'm looking to get something to help me
exercise inside during the bad weather days. I'm thinking either rollers, a
trainer, or maybe even an exercise bike. I've got a Giant Rainier bike and
I love to ride, street or trail. I've already got a decent home gymn so I
would just like to add to it to try and stay fit. For in-home use what would
you recommend.... rollers, trainer, or exercise bike? Thanks.

Check Ebay for used spinning bikes. A bit pricey perhaps but pretty
close to the real thing, and they tend to be rugged.

  3. Hey there Splat...I'm a big believer in training. I train all muscle
groups but have found squats to be very helpful in biking, especially
in climbing. Anything that smokes your legs will be helpful on the
    trail....TB

    Sounds wonderful to me.
I live on the west coast of North England and we've
had no snow at all this winter.
I've had to go to the distant hills to XCride or XCski.

If I were in your shoes it would be upperbody and arms
    that would get the attention.
I find sitting in the saddle spinning along tracks or
even climbing out of the saddle uses central bodycore
and legs but does nothing to buildup my skinny arms.

  7. Sorry Jason
I thought you were the original poster.

Just switched from OE to Mozilla Thunderbird and
I've not yet sussed out message sequences !!

But a strong upper body does little to help you get up a hill. Core
work, on the other hand, is very helpful.

  9. I've tried different things over the years, ie, xc skiing, running,
indoor gym equipment, spinning class, road riding, this that and the
other gimmick. Best thing for me was to get my geared bike on a
trainer, a stack of extreeem dvd's, and just pedal my guts out on my
own bike, using the gearing and height of the front tire for
    resistance.

A pro roadie trainer told me several years ago that the most beneficial
way to train for riding was to ride your own bike. I think I believe
    him now.

Both my trainers I found used for under $20. Got the Northshore,
Kranked, etc., dvds cheap on ebay.

    And it works.
