much more, but it might be a far lower number than are hurt

However, even assuming that you did, your experience
does not extrapolate to the population as a whole. It is
a serious illness because the complications are
extremely serious.

Ah well, I had mumps as a child. Yes it "can" develop into
much more, but it might be a far lower number than are hurt
by the vac. As I said, I had it, and, I made it through.
While the world is a better place due your Mumps related
sterility, not everyone wants that for their children.

You have to be carefull about WHICH strain of mumps vaccine
you are talking about. The MMR that has been used in the USA
since 1971 has had the Jeryl Lynn strain of mumps vaccine,
which has not been associated with aseptic meningitis, NOT
the Urabe strain.
The Urabe strain has been associated with meningitis and the
UK version of MMR was changed from that to the Jeryl Lynn
strain over a decade ago. Though apparently there seems to
be a problem with a single mumps vaccine still containing
the Urabe strain: mca.gov.ukpressrelea
ses/urabe_050802.pdf
The MMR vaccine presently in use in the UK does NOT have any
association with meningitis.
By the way, MMR does not cause autism... that has been
soundly disproven..
The students being infected with mumps in Scotland are at
the age where some nasty complications can occur... from
deafness to permanent sterility.
