  1. Despair

8 weeks ago I was the fittest that I have ever been in my life, really enjoying my riding doing
about 40 miles 5 days a week and then 20 on the others, really feeling good . then suddenly I was
laid up in bed for a weekend, got back on a bike a few days after feeling 'dozzy' and just don't
have any energy . then get laid up in bed for a few days .. then the chest pains start

So I go to the doctor . "virus infection it will clear in a week" One week later back to the docs,
this has been the general pattern for the last 7 weeks, rode to work on Friday . had to get a lift
home, felt tired fatigued and body ache all weekend and now I feel so demoralized that I look at my
bike and just think "I might as well sell it"

ECG came back fine, awaiting Bloody tests and chest x-ray which should be back Tuesday

    Cheers

Just wanted to wing as I am feeling so down after feeling so good

    Cheers

After my quick research of the symptoms, i note that he did not mention nausea, weight loss,
    or a rash.

but, i would not rule it out. I second Steve's thought of Lyme disease.

Chris you're in the U.K right? Is Lyme Disease there? Sounds like it could be mono. Find a new doc.
Eight weeks is a long time to be hearing "It will clear up...". I'd see an internist (or the UK
equiv.) They'll have the best backround to either diagnose you or send you to the most appropriate
specialist. Avoid the coffee enema-naturopath- vitamin store crowd. They'll give you an answer and
take your money, but any improvement will most likely be you getting better on your own. Good luck.
The trails will still be there.

  6. Lyme is there. If it is something checking out a support group can be found for the UK at

Don't you think he should get a diagnosis before joining the support group, unless he's got a "Fight
Club" sorta thing going on? Then he'll need a lot more help ;-)

  8. Lymes is in the UK although my doctors are fairly sure this is not the cause, although have not done
    any blood test for this

I have been signed of work for 10 days and have an appointment at the Cardiac department of the
    local hospital this afternoon

    Cheers

Then they're guessing. I realise you can't make quite as many demands of your docs as we can here in
the States, but you may want to try....

Good luck - let's hope it is none of their business. ;-)

I went into a similar spiral in about 1980, coupled with night sweats (such that the wife told me to
see a doctor or sleep alone), and it turned out to be sarchoidosis. No real cure but time. It went
away eventually, but just knowing what it was cured most of the symptoms. Strange but true...

No. The support group is how you find a Dr.

Very few Dr.'s treat this illness.

In the US the support groups are used to pass out the names of Dr.s since many Dr's who treat the
illness do so "under the table". (if a
Dr. treats the illness they are removed from insurance provider lists).

Really?! I've never heard that. Why is that the case? That is an odd thing to think of a doctor not
treating it "above the table." Are there any websites devoted to this issue? Why would their
insurance get canceled for treating someone?

    Thanks for answering the questions.

What? There's an insurance company conspiracy against diagnosing and treating Lyme Disease? Or am I
    misreading you?

  14. Thankfully it is not Lyme's disease, nor is it cardiac as was though ... still not sure what is
causing it although my muscle stress is up a little more that it should be (over training !!!) but I
have a couple of weeks of work and little else to do other than watch the tour de france.

Still miserable as I can't ride a bike .... but happy at the thought that I will be able to ride a
    bike some point soon

    Cheers

Hold on to that thought ! Dont sell the bike.

I got yuppie flu (ME?) some years ago, and I'm not even a yuppie, but I spent two years suffering
the same sort of symptoms you describe. Looking back I feel time was the healer rather than the meds
I got. Best of luck and keep reporting back Mike

  17. Most people havent heard of this problem. Well..until they get Lyme Disease. Here are some links:

    angelfire.comindex.html

    angelfire.competition.html

    abcnews.go.comwnt000604 lymedisease feature.html

    zrealm.compublicserv1.htm

    angelfire.comindex.html

    There are many many more..

My personal opinion is that it all comes down to money. Treating Lyme is very expensive. There
really 3 major Dr.'s who are in the forefront of this fight. Burrascano, Horowitz, and Orens of NY.
If you do a search on any of them you will find information on this issue. Support Groups around the
country raise money for them to fight the insurance companies in court.

This is very common. Most patients pay for treatment out of pocket. For a late diagnosis anywhere
between $400-$5,000 a month (for iv).

I put some links before this posting.

Just do a search of Lyme, insurance and you will get plenty of info.
