Thanks for the acknowledgment and advice. How long of a recovery
should I expect and how far out is reasonable to plan for my next
    marathon. Thanks again.

The more popular options are one or two a year. Two a year works
well for people who want to focus on marathons, provided that everything
is going smoothly. Since your morale is high and you appear to be
uninjured, I'd recommend that you attempt another one some time in fall.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,

Good advice. Recovery, hang out and do some shorter races(5-15K)10K and
then ramp back up. Don't become a one dimensional distance runner like
    me. 😉

Like Donovan & Doug said, wait for fall to do another full marathon and
once recovered, have some fun - as well as being useful training I find -
    doing shorter races.

My "recovery" message was to just say beware of the excitement and desire
to go out and improve immediately, while you're still on the "high" from
your success (and that it definitely was :-). It can often end in tears
until you get to know how your body reacts to a marathon.

Give yourself a couple of weeks with little running, maybe even less than
the taper period, before starting to build up over the following two weeks
to an "average" pre-marathon easy week. After that, you can start a new
    training cycle.

Some may take a shorter "easy period", but I've found that a relatively
light month after a target marathon does wonders for me - BUT I am 47yo
and maybe I need more than average rest.

  4. good luck and relax! you've done the work, you'll be fine. oh yeah, and
you will hurt like hell from 20-24 but you'll get past it.

    Here are the results....
My goal was 3:30... I felt that was conservative but doable for my
first marathon. I finished in 3:23 according to my watch, but I
official results have not yet been posted. My pace chart probably
would indicate that I am inexperienced and did a lot of things wrong.
The first 13 my pace was around 7:20, but I was unable to keep that
pace and the last few miles were in the 8:20 range....I am going to
blame a change in the wind😉 There was a severe thunderstorm(kind of
ominous) at about 5:00 a.m., but things cleared for the race and the
temperature stayed around 80. A few minor stomach issues trying to
hydrate and fuel during the heat, but altother, I am pleased. I credit
the advice, valuable information, and support that this group gave me
to help me achieve my goal. I hate to admit it, but I am already
    thinking of the next one.

No potatos at the aid stations, but plenty of baked potatos at the
    finish.

    Rob

I'm a little late but a hearty congratulations! You made your time goal
so now you can use your pace times to plan the next one.

    Enjoy the run,
    ed
