Must be them thar dismal fens. We got bright sunshine and not a trace
of frost: in fact it's still too warm for the winter duvet - and that's

How old is he ? sixteen ? At that age I was doing 40 mile/12hour,
overnight, orienteering events on the NY Moors in December. He'll be
alright.

He'll be fine - Ben missed the bus this morning, so I had to drive him
up to Litcham - the roads are just wet, not icy, so at least half of
Nathan's journey will be OK 🙂

As for the cold - well, he sounds pretty well wrapped up. I rode to
Swaffham and back last night and just about managed to keep warm. I did
notice how much more space the Tin Boxes give you in the dark, compared
to daylight - I might ride at night more often.

Most youngsters are tougher than many think.
My 5' Katie (just 17) did her 30 miles yesterday to college and back
then 10 freezing miles each way last night to her previous school for
her award presentation evening (A*A*A*A*AABBBB +Maths award).
This morning I decided to ride most of the way to college with her as I
just love the trice on ice.
Just got back in and now thawing out.
Best are the frosty cobwebs and the sun starting to come through the mists.
It's a great day.

Yup I find that at night, swathed in reflectives and loads of lights the tin
boxes do tend to give more room.

Might cycle to Litcham next Wednesday night as it's GCSE certificate
presentation night. Depends what time I get back from Brum, though.

Oh I *know* he'll be okay. He's been taught to cycle sensibly and it's all part
of growing up etc., etc... But it doesn't stop the worry gene part of
motherhood from going into illogical overdrive ;-)

I no longer cycle on the road if there's a chance of ice. My last fall was
on some ice under some trees while turning right and I was lucky not to do a
Pete Biggs, just had some bruising to my hip. I dig my mountain bikeout and
ride the forest trails.

Nope, was pretty foggy in London too on my way to work. Didn't
notice much frost but according to a local weather station the
temperature was about 1C.

Now that sounds good 'cept amoeba brain me has had it confirmed it's not Brum,
it's Coventry. Vernon is there Sunday to Wednesday & I'm doing the driving, as
train is ridiculous, with cheapest fare being over £50 and a total of five
changes of train minimum. Good job I checked with Vernon or I'd be dropping
somewhere totally unrelated to where he needs to be ;-)

Hmm... he had better remain in my good books 'tween now & then!

Ice is ice is ice and it's just as hard wherever it forms. Patches of
ice are less likely to crack if you have less pressure on them through
your lower pressure, fatter tryes.

Ice is ice yes but on soft ground it just breaks up. It's only a problem on
forest trails when puddles freeze solid, which they rarely do. If it's that
cold avoid the puddles.
