So, I think I've finally decided that I like the Trek 5200. I'm 50yr old and want something comfortable (but still sporty). To that end I want my handlebars close to or at the same height as my seat.
On a 58cm Trek 5200 (I'm 6', 170lbs) we were able to fit the bike with the bars at seat level and the reach good for me (I am not very flexible) if we use 3 spaces before the stem and a 90mm stem (I think standard is 110mm) and a riser stem of 14degrees (7 or 8degrees is standard).
In this configuration it feels good and the stem doesn't look unusual on the bike this way.
Question: am I ruining the geometry of the bike? Am I trying to make it something it isn't? Am I interfering with proper handling as I've changed the geometry?
I need some reassurance that it's O.K. to do this before I buy the bike.
Thanks
