I was riding my bike today and noticed that when I get up near 17 MPH on a slightly rough road I hear what sounds like a low frequency metallic hum coming from my fork. I stopped checked the fork for any cracks or damage but saw none. I also checked the wheels for any loose spokes or other problems and nothing.
The bike was riding and handling very well (as usual) and besides this odd noise the bike felt stable and great. On nice flat roads I hear nothing but as soon as I hit and sort of rough areas (tar with embbeded gravel) I hear the vibration. I

Were it a steel fork I'd suspect a bit of brazing material that dripped and hardened inside, resulting if a little bit of metal rattling around. I don't know if there is something similar in carbon forks. Come to think of it, I don't know what carbon forks sound like on rough pavement. Might be you are hearing a "normal" sound.

Bung come loose? It does nothing after the stem bolts are tightened, and this can happen. See if the allen bolt in the top of the stem is really loose.

Yup, the steerer is aluminum. I left the bike at the shop today as I think something is not right. When I hit certain potholes at above 17mph I hear what sounds like a loud pop from the fork. It sounds like a piece of plastic snapping in two, but the fork does not show any sort of damage.
I did swap out the tires awhile ago from 25C's to 23C's thus I went from 100psi to 120PSI but I never heard this noise before this week and I've been riding the same terrain since last August. This is my first bike with any sort of carbon fiber so I don't know what is and isn't normal when it comes to carbon.
If the shop say's everything seems fine should I not worry about it? I don't mind replacing the fork for my own piece of mind and saftey but forks are expensive...
