Depends on what size of image you want to have on their website. Large
image = long time to upload and view, but potentially better print quality;
and vice versa.
I do my own printing so my images are sized for computer screen before
uploading.

Not really but you'll probably have some software to upgrade your pictures.
Change format, color, (un)sharpen, get rid of distracting elements by
cloning, frame your picture, add text, stitch, etc.,etc..
It's fun but timeconsuming.

It's what I use when I want to borrow somebody's computer to do some
editing and they haven't got Photoshop.

It's not /necessary/ (as long as they're in a suitable
format); however your viewers will probably appreciate it if
you optimise file sizes a tad. I usually take my filesize
down by about 2/3 to around 33% or 37% using either IrfanView
or PSP 8.

Adobe Photoshop; PaintShop Pro; IrfanView (freeware)... You
don't need the latest versions and you may be able to find a
'free' one on a cover disc somewhere. Then again, I'd be
inclined to see if anyone has a copy of something they'd like
you to look after a back up of for them ;-)

Picasa 2 (downloadable free from Google, who owns it) is a really good,
simple, image cataloguing and basic
editing/cropping/contrast/saturation/sharpening tool, brilliant for
cataloging pictures for those of us who are too chaotic to know better!
