The Fox TALAS forks need to be serviced every 18 months, the others are
"virtually maintenance free" unless a leak develops.

I just love stuff you can just bolt on and ride that also really work well.
I'll never go back to Marzocchi unless they really turn things around.

They have had problems here in the UK, mud eats through the stanchions
rather quickly.

another RS or Manitou. There's a chance I could go back to the Bomberhood
some day.

I'd like a nice Fox fork myself, but so far I've had really good luck
with Manitou (knock on wood). My Black Elite Air is still running strong
on it's fourth season with only the occasional lube for maintenance. I
have blown up a RS Sid, but I was the third owner and got it on a bike
(my 1x1) that was only $650. I still got a couple of seasons on it so
the value still seemed to be there as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe my next bike will come with a Fox...

I agree. I have had zero problems with my Manitous. I have never had
to service them (one is three years old) and they perform wonderfully.
My manitou 2:00 was $325, while the comparable Fox is over $700. WTF is
up with that? The 3:00 on my X-5 has now been tried and tested on some
pretty rough terrain and is also holding up just fine for a light 5" fork.

Rode yeasterday night with a guy that had a terra logic and he complained
that it was constantly leaking oil. Seems the Swedish winter got to it.

On the other hand if I bought a new fork it would be a fox vanilla, coil and
oil, at the moment I am just waiting to see how far my 2002 Marathon air
will go. Have not pumped it for a year and it is still going strong.

For the Manitou lovers out there...

I have a 2001 (or 02) SX-R that came on my medium Klein Adept. Early last
season it developed a small oil leak. I had it looked at, and the wrench
told me that a small bushing in the oil damper assembly had failed. Fine.
Believe it or not, I was unable to get a rebuild kit or spare part anywhere
for this $2 bushing.

Finally I decided to get a Bomber and avoid the whole problem. Now I have
this spare, not-in-working-condition fork that needs a home. If anybody has
a junker SX series fork lying around and want to build one good fork from
two....

Yours for the price of shipping. AFAIK, it's in excellent condition
otherwise, and has a ~7 3/4" steerer. Dark blue.

Similar story:
I had a Manitou Skareb (one of the bad ones) whose lowers were replaced. A
while after that, the damper assembly snapped. I then had a spring-only
fork, and it was the most horrible thing ever. I rode that thing for a
while until I scored a sweet deal on a Fox.

However,
I bought an old Manitou Mars CL for my XC bike. It's nice... so far...

My TALAS has worked great, and doesn't require anything like that kind
of maintenance.

I did replace the seals with Enduro seals, but that was just because I
wanted to. Oh, and I changed the oil then. It looked just about the
same as the oil I put in.

Bombers are nice. I have a coil and oil Z3. But I really had to work
to find a maintenance manual for the thing. It kind of put me off
Marz.
