Begin with a night school program in either welding or brazing in the material in which you're
interested . A night class in machine shop wouuld be great - the intro level classes concentrate on
measuring and basic hand tools with metal.

You'll find tech classes cheap, informative and filled with very motivated students - guys trying to
get a better job.

Then see if you can find work at a framebuilding shop. Even if you're the cleanup guy that
environment is what you need.

And build! Even if just for yourself. You only need basic hand tools (vise, straightedge, calipers).

I remember when I was poking around the framebuilders' web sites, I noticed that Hot Tubes has a
deal where they teach you to build a frame and you come away with your own. If your goal is to get
into the biz I'm not sure if this is sufficient. But you might want to check with them.
