  1. I've been buying more chicken parts lately than whole chicken,
especially bulk frozen since they are cheaper.

All of them, without exception, have been brined... I'm not really
pleased about it since I have to take diuretics for fluid retention and
    salt exacerbates that, but... <shrugs>

I'd gotten used to it and had just given up.

Yesterday I was able to get two Hyooge packages of boneless skinless
breasts for $1.89 per lb. on sale at Fiesta. I just presumed that they
were going to be the same as the rest.

I'm just finishing up grilling all of them on the electric grill for the
next week's worth of low fat meals for me since I've been off my diet
for 2 weeks while I've been on vacation. I did not pig out or anything,
I just relaxed and ate some "treat" foods along with my usual diet of
fresh meats and veggies. Monday I crack back down.....

Anyhoo, I'm grilling these with a marinade of honey mustard and lime
juice with just a dash of garlic powder and poultry fajita seasoning.
They looked and smelled so good, I cut one up and ate it and.....

    no salt.

Oh goodness! I'd almost forgotten what real chicken tasted like! :-)

These came from Fiesta market if anyone else is interested. I've seen a
lot of griping about all the brined chicken that is on the market.

I actually had to add a touch of salt. <lol>

    Cheers!

  2. At my ACME, it's a concept. The "Fresh" perdue chicken packages were all
frozen! I don't know if it's shipped frozen or the ACME freezes it. 🙁

There was a limit of 2 packages with a $10.00 purchase but they were BIG

    Sorry, other Fiesta locations:

    http://www.avilaretail.com/Locations/locations.html

I spent a little over $200.00 yesterday because their produce prices,
fish and a lot of the meat prices are about 20% lower than I can get
locally and the produce selection is nothing short of amazing...

They even have live catfish in tanks on site. ;-) I bought some fish
heads to make stock too while I was there.

The Feds changed the definition/regulation of what can be called
"fresh" a couple of years ago. "Fresh" now means the chicken or parts
has not been held at temps below 30°F. What's that you say? That's
below the freezing point? So? How much did you contribute to our
political leadership compared to the money from the poultry industry?
It's not as though this administration knows how to measure
    ANYTHING.... -aem

I think that was in place before our current pinhead administration

Why give up, find a store that sells unadulterated meatand let the store

actually has billboards all over proclaiming that they don't sell Wally
    style adulterated meat.

    That's kinda what I just did. ;-)

Now that I know Fiesta does not brine it's meat (the jury is still out
on the drumsticks I bought!) I'll be going there to stock up on chicken
instead of the local stores! Only thing is the price of gas. It costs me
$10.00 now for a round trip to Austin. My truck only gets 20 mpg. and
it's 40 miles so I have to take that into consideration.

OTOH I did spend $250.00 at Fiesta. <lol> Their produce variety and
    prices are to die for.

I suppose people figure if you recognize the name of the store, it's in an
area near you. For example, if I say Schnuck's, most folks realize if they
have it in their area or not. I don't have a Trader Joe's near me, so it's
a given I can avoid worrying about whether or not I need to rush over there
for something special unless I want to buy a plane ticket. Pretty simple,
    no?

Better yet, if possible buy from the farmer then you know the meat
    hasn't been adulterated 🙂

I looked, but only saw independent markets calling themselves Fiesta.
Like I said, it's not a BIG chain here. Safeway and Albertsons are
big chains.... lots of stores nearby. Ranch 99 is a small chain....
not very many of them and they are spread out.

When you're in the country, driving 40 miles isn't a big deal. If I
have to drive 10, it's a huge deal for me.

That would be nice... but prohibitively expensive.

    Ok. :-)
It's just what Fiesta told me when I commented on their unusually low
prices. I got tomoatoes there for 99 cents per lb. Romas, but still.....
Everywhere else this time of year, they are $1.29 to $1.49!

I'm not. ;-) The closest grocery store is about 2 miles away, as are the
closest schools, sheriff's station, hospital and fire station.
It's just that Texas is so HUGE that 40 miles is nothing... You get used

I don't have to, it's just that there are some items I can get in Austin
that I cannot get here in town. Grapeseed oil for one, and the canned
oriental veggies I use a lot of (straw mushrooms, baby corn, water
chestnuts, quail eggs and bamboo shoots) are about 1/2 price if I go to
the oriental market. Ginseng extract also. It's $7.00 per box instead of
    $11.00 per box.

I may as well buy other stuff and stock up where prices are better to
make the $10.00 gas ticket more worth it.

I go to austin every 4 or 5 weeks..... mostly because the traffic
    seriously sucks!!!
