  1. Went snooping through the fidge earlier. I found unidentifiable stuff in
Tupperware containers. Pitched them all. I found some left over bottom
round, about 2 weeks old. I pitched it. There was also a slab of Regiano
Parmesan cheese in there which I forgot about. There is a bit of blue
coloration on it. Can I scrape off the blue gunk and use the cheese or is
the cheese no longer edible? I think it's still edible but I want
opinions. I bought it a month ago.

If the mold spot is all blue/green you can salvage some of the cheese.
If it's fuzzy or white, throw it out. Don't scrape it. Cut it out,
including plenty of unmarked cheese around the mold spot, as it may
have spread. With a soft cheese, just throw it out because the extent
of spreading, whether visible or not, is greater than with hard cheese.
    Rewrap and refrigerate. -aem

    Yeesh.

I bought all that beef yesterday for $3.99 so had to make freezer space.

I tossed 4 trashcans full of old [censored] labeled 2002.....

I'm just glad I started dating freezer stuff about then. <sigh>

    What a waste!

I'm taking vacation time next month!
I need the list to harass me to clean out the big freezer please?????

I'm going to defrost it, then organize it and put up a dry erase board
with inventory and dates so I can plan meals and quit wasting stuff!

I've been wanting to do this for about a year now. :-(

I'll post my vacation date as soon as I have it scheduled at work.

Hard cheese is still good once you scrape or grate the mold off. Soft
cheese is "iffy" when it gets moldy.

It should be okay. I would be more concerned about a soft cheese that has gone
    mouldy.

What I can't figure out is that some hard cheeses go mouldy, some soft cheeses
go mouldy, and mouldy cheeses just seem to get hard.

What a waste, indeed! Most of the "old [censored]" was probably still good.
It doesn't spoil in the freezer, and if it's wrapped good enough most
things don't really deteriorate for many years. 2002 is still young,
except for ham, which can get an off taste in the freezer in less than a
    year. HTH ;-)

    Best regards,
    Bob

I found that any pork sausage or ham gets off flavors. I started wrapping
in foil and this is no longer a problem. After I started doing this, Alton
Brown said something to the effect that pork or pork fat absorbs funky
    odors.

I only tossed stuff that showed signs of freezer burn.....
I've tried and tried to use stuff that had that, but it tastes like Sh**
    no matter what I do!

Most of it was some Emu meat from a bird that dad had to shoot due to
some serious injuries when it fell into a dry swimming pool somewhere
around here. I don't know the details.

I made jerky last year out of most of the emu that was in the freezer.

I'm sick of it anyway. Emu is not really all that good.
