The later ones with the batteries at an angle to the lens and the clip up the middle were fine for urban use IME. People did have problems with them falling out of the clips, but don't know if that was user error because mine stayed in ok. I did wonder if there were two generations, one with a more reliable clip.
The other user problem (IMHO) with that design was people who mounted them so that the batteries where vertical, and thus with the lights pointing noticably upwards ... -- These opinions might not even be mine ... Let alone connected with my employer ...
I recently bought a lighting set from Lidl. Filament obviously and not bright enough for unlit roads but for £4 you can't argue. It does show, however, that it really is possible to design a mechanically decent lamp with a robust, rattle free bracket.
Hmmm. I need to take that back. I dropped it from about 2ft today and and it stopped working. Bulb? No. The batteries had moved and bent the contacts out of the way.

Or anyone with night blindness! There's currently none of these light- sets in the UK, but hopefully a shipment of 20 or so should be coming in the 2nd or 3rd week of November.
Apparently, the delay is caused because Lupine do most of their testing in house, and reject a high number of parts that would probably sail through a production line in Taiwan.
