  1. And who's lying their asses off now?

    http://eurosport.com/cycling/tour-de-france/2006/sport_sto920170.shtml

The doctor at the centre of the Spanish doping investigation has said
he treated footballers, athletes and tennis players as well as
cyclists. However, Doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, who was held for
questioning by police in May, denied that his methods could be classed
    as doping.

Fuentes's declarations come in stark contrast to a statement released
by the Spanish government on Tuesday that said no footballers or tennis
players were implicated in the investigation.

Another question raised about the objectivity and honesty of the
    investigation.

Is that a picture of him in the headline of that article??? Holy HAIR
PLUGS Batman! Jeez, you would think a DOCTOR would find a decent hair
specialists. Dude looks like he uses Johan Musseuws (sp) stylist.

    Nice.

Oh and he can blood dope these guys, but cant reveal names cause he
took an oath! Oh, Ok. Seems to me like he is ITCHING to spit out
names, his quotes all seem like a guy who is revelling in the
attention, not [censored] his pants for facing jail time. Makes you
question the honesty of his statements.

I'm sure he's gonna spin this and lie his ass off, but they still need
to address the huge difference in the statements. I assume that the
Guardia Civil has all his records, it would seem pretty simple to me to
document his patients. It's gonna be pretty tough to explain away if
there are other non-cycling athletes in his files.
Everything seems to indicate that there were other type athletes
    involved.
    Strange situation.

I would say that it shows the relative power of FIFA and the Tennis
Association. They don't want to lose out on the big bucks with a doping
scandal. They need the footballers to play twice a week. A doping
scandal during the World Cup would cost them big time. They need Rafael
Nadal to have the big serve and good stamina. These groups want it
pushed under the carpet, just like major league baseball.

Cycling gets the bad name but any sport where there are millions of $
at stake is just as guilty.

What he said today on Spanish radio:

"After all of this, mi career is going through a 360º (sic) turn."

And he didn't mention anyone's name, as adviced by his lawyers.

It says "he treated footballers." It does not say he admitted to doping
footballers. I've been treated by doctors and I somehow managed to avoid
    being doped.

None implicated in the investigation, as of yet.

If the Spanish police are anything like the Mexican ones, then, well, you
know... Let's hope they are not.

Yes, that's him leaving jail. And yes, the guy is a loser, I mean, he
had Ullrich, Basso, Pantani, Beloki, Heras, Hamilton, Sevilla and
Mancebo (but not Valverde) in his hands but could never beat LANCE?
Come on! Give that team to Ferrari and the results would have been much
    different.

I've forgotten the exact words, and the author, unfortunately. But
there is a lovely passage out there somewhere, written in reflection of
the travails of Lester Young and Billie Holliday: (approx.) "We demand
incredible, repeated performances from these people, and damn them when
they resort to using alcohol and drugs to acheive what we demand".

Same for any athletic performer (go play two, two-hour shows a night,
plus matinees on Sat./Sun., and report back. Any instrument.)

This amounts to two problems at the same time-- putting the performer
in an untenable situation, plus condemning him from the position of
being the end user of the performance.

Dr. Fuentes' defense, that he is protecting the health of his clients,
    is valid.

Nearby in google there is related info about tissue damage from sickle
    cell anemia.

A chiropracter friend hinted at this "restoring to health" aspect of
medical care inre "doping", in conversation recently. I don't expect
anything to change soon in this sometimes dark and stupid world we live
in, but there is a difference between "care" and "cheating".

WADA should be leading the way with a lamp, instead of relying on
police to enforce stupid sporting rules, in service of selling a
self-serving fairy tale ("we're going to clean up sports"😉 that mostly
damages the image of the sports it "serves".

This whole mess is starting to smell very rotten

We have Fuentes, if we can suppose for the moment that he is being
truthful, saying that there are riders on the lists that he doesn't
even know and riders that he has _treated_ still riding the Tour

This is to some measure given credibility as there is at least one
rider in the Tour who, notwithstanding the inclusion of his name in
the Rogues Gallery, is packing round a letter from the Spanish
Federation attesting that he had no dealings with Fuentes.

    Davey smells a rat here
