Yes, this is how I also set up my Garmin ForeTrex 201 (position FRMT:
UTM/UPS; Map datum: WGS 84 - BTW I don't understand what you mean by
changing the coordinates) but this track has been gathered in the French
Alps on another machine and just emailed to me as a .ign file that I am
trying to decipher and the coordinates don't make sense.

Do we, potentially, have some confusion between "IGN" (Institut
Geographique National), the French equivalent 0f OS, and a *.ign file,
which seems to be the proprietory format of an unspecified GPS?

Will one of the free GPS-utilities convert the .ign to .gpx, which will
(maybe) allow it to be displayed in Memory Map or some other mapping
suite?

A Google search on "convert .ign to .gpx" brings back several hits which may
be of use
