We had a base camp further down the ridge from there (away from Baguio). We were staying in Baguio and would drive up past the Radar Station (awesome view - you can see the coast from up there) and down the ridge. We were pulling out a Diamond Coring Rig which was about 1/3 of the way down to the river below Baguio. This was a heli-portable Rig but the portaging was being done man-portable. These fella's were carrying Lister diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, water pumps, drill pipe, 10' x 18" x 10" hardwood sleepers back up the hill. They were only small blokes, but strong as all [censored]. On this ridge where the Rig was drilling, the Spaniards had cut a stope that was about 3' x 3' a good hundred metres through the ridge from on side to the other following a gold-bearing quartz seam. They did it back in the 1700's and it was still passing air. They must've been tough buggers - no wonder the Vuelta has such big climbs.
