Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a brand new (2005) Giant TCR2 road bike -
alu frame with 105 components (mainly) and xero wheelset.
Does anyone have any experience of this bike and can offer opinions?
Thanks
Ted

It's a watermelon seed. You pinch it and it FLIES out of your hands. The
damn thing only weighs 15 lbs so it climbs so easy that it's almost like
flying.

15? Unless it's been upgraded, that's unlikely.

Yeah, I figure it can't be that light with a 105 "blend" on it... still
for around the $1000 mark is there anything better? I like the compact
geometry too.

Of course it's been upgraded. He brought it and his Fuji Team with all sorts
of upgrades over and I moved the Fuji around and when I picked up the Giant
I almost threw it in the air.
I weighed the Fuji at 17.5 lbs before, so I believe my brother when he said
that the guy he bought it from weighed it in front of him at 15 lbs.

Dear Tom,
Forgive me--I do understand that reducing a bike from 17.5
to 15 pounds must feel wonderful.
But I can't help clicking on my favorite calculator:
http://www.kreuzotter.de/english/espeed.htm
Hands on drops, standard rider, 10% grade:
400 watt 300 watt 200 watt 100 watt
15.0-lb bike 10.1 mph 7.8 mph 5.3 mph 2.7 mph
17.5-lb bike 10.0 mph 7.7 mph 5.2 mph 2.6 mph
Hands on drops, standard rider, 7% grade:
400 watt 300 watt 200 watt 100 watt
15.0-lb bike 13.0 mph 10.3 mph 7.2 mph 3.7 mph
17.5-lb bike 12.9 mph 10.1 mph 7.1 mph 3.6 mph
Hands on drops, standard rider, 3% grade:
400 watt 300 watt 200 watt 100 watt
15.0-lb bike 18.9 mph 16.0 mph 12.3 mph 7.2 mph
17.5-lb bike 18.8 mph 15.9 mph 12.2 mph 7.1 mph
For roughly ordinary-sized riders putting out anywhere from
100 to 400 watts on grades from 3% to 10%, reducing the
bicycle weight from 17.5 lbs to 15.0 lbs is predicted to
improve speed approximately 0.1 mph
The calculator, of course, has no field for the coefficient
of the pride of ownership, which often increases power.
