    Hi guys,
    Does anybody here have any feedback on Gitane MTB's?

    I've got an ageing Yukon ('99.....used mainly for going to work) and have been looking for something new to get into some trail riding.

    I found a Gitane ATV Blast ('03 model) the other day with the following specs:

    FRAME: 6061 Alloy Tig Welded
    FORK: Rock Shox Judy C
    HEADPARTS: VP Fully Integrated Threadless
    F/DERAILLEUR: Shimano LX
    R/DERAILLEUR: Shimano LX
    SHIFTERS: Shimano LX
    CRANKSET: Shimano LX
    CHAINWHEEL: Shimano LX
    BRAKE LEVERS: Shimano LX
    FRONT HUB: Shimano Deore
    REAR HUB: Shimano Deore
    F/BRAKE: Shimano Deore Cable Disc
    R/BRAKE: Shimano Deore V-Brake
    B/BRACKET: Shimano ES 70
    FREEWHEEL: Shimano 11-32t 9 Speed

    I have no experience or knowledge of Gitane bikes, but component wise that's a great price; it's not often you see a full LX equipped bike that cheaply.

    Equipped nicely enough careful w/ front disc n rear v-brakes. Nice price for LX and Deore though.

    Yeah, I was impressed with the components for the price.....it's just really hard to find any tests/reviews etc on the frame.

    I said that only because if the front isnt broken in and the back isnt disc, its an akward way to break it in. But maybe thats jsut beacuse ive used dual discs all the time. If the front isnt broken in the chance to have it stick is better than the back by a whole bunch though.

    Ah Gitane.... I havn't heard that name in a long time. Gitane made pretty good road bikes in the 60s and 70s. Assuming it's the same company, and the frame looks well built, it's probably not a bad bike. They've probably outsourced production to Taiwan like Bianchi and exist largely in name only.
