Anyone taking glucosamine for the general aches and
pains of running? Does it work?
Thanks,
S.
I take glucosamine with chondroitin every day for knee and hip pain. Works
wonders. I can tell the difference if I forget to take it for a few days.

I've been doing the Glucosamine/Chondroitin thing for about 2
years, and I believe it works. I have no proof and it may just be the
placebo effect, but thats good enough for me.

Do you take it with ibuprofen or is that a bad idea?
Thanks,
S.

I use it preventively. I have no idea if it works and I consider it like
taking extra C, it does no harm .

Confess, what is your problem that you are looking to drug away that you
would want to do both? Ibuprofen will often hide the problem and cause
more problems especially if your trying to run with NSAIDS.

Like Doug said, its not a good idea to try to mask some ailments
because they can get worse. I take ibuprofen after a run if my knee
really hurts bad (arthritis). The Gluco/Chrondo is taken in the early
AM along with my multi-vitamin-mineral, and a 81grain aspirin. I
agree that its a preventive thing and if it dosen't help, at least it
won't hurt.
Eric
I take it daily.
I don't know what it does, I just like the way it tastes.
Same thing with aspirin.

Ouch! I won't ask what the doc says about running with a degenerative
disc. 😉 Can we assume you are doing all the right stuff to strengthen
those back muscles that keep the disc from moving and working diligently
on good form, in particular keeping your body erect and your weight over
your hips, aka no leaning?
I still think the NSAIDS will hide too much. Ask your doc what he
thinks.

How about running with a degenerate?
Check you mail.

That's perfectly acceptable assuming the degeneration is mutually
appreciated.

Snake oil. Completly worthless.

We know Anne, we've all seen the video.

What's your back got to do with you being a degenerate?

Me too. 200 knee bent, rocker style situps every day, make it a
religion. Stretch early and often, particularly the "en garde"
stretch where you put one foot well out in front of your body, bend
and push forward as if you are doing a sword fight lunge.
I take G & C, seems to work, but I can't prove it.

The body makes glucosamine from glucose and glutamine.
Glutamine is an amino acid, found in proteins. It's not essential
since your body makes it in skeletal muscle, but it's conditionally
essential, in the sense that exercise and other stress can deplete its
levels.
I take glutamine: one teaspoon twice a day, more after long runs and
speedwork. I'm also supplementing with whey protein, and eating meat
and fish.
As a hard working athlete, you want to make sure you get about a gram
of protein for every pound of lean body mass.
A lot of these aches and pains are simply from inadequate nutrition,
which impairs the body's ability to recover properly.
You have to provide the basic building blocks first. There is no use
in supplementing with substances which are derived from fundamental
building blocks, if you are lacking in the building blocks themselves.

I do a lot of ab work and stretch three times a day.
The doc says running shouldn't aggravate things too
much. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes not. I haven't
tried the en garde stretch. I'll include it. Thanks.
