  1. Does anyone else have this problem? My main road bike and I fit just fine on the road, but when on the rollers my butt gets numb after about 20min. It maybe I tension up while on the rollers.Tonight I paid close attention to position and form and it still happened? Any coments.😕

On rollers, you may tend to stay at the same spot on the seat, and not slide around as much as you do on the road. Plus on the road, you can easily stand or take weight off the saddle to give some relief. That's harder to do on rollers. This problem will likely lessen over time as you get more used to riding rollers.

  3. Have never ever used rollers, and admire those of you who have the balance to be able to do so.
But, I have used a Magtrainer a few times...the last few times I have gotten numb in the short crank region. As one fella said, on the road you move around a fair bit. Cornering, varying cadence, etc...
I tried using different thickness of phone books under front tyre, but have found no relief yet

Yes. I ride rollers and definitely happens if you sit on the same spot / position for long.

Every 5 minutes or so, I spin a high cadence (100+) and coast while standing on the pedals. It only lasts for a few seconds, but it's enough to enable blood flow to your tender areas. Works for me.

Best would be to spin out-of-the-saddle, but I can't do that just yet (maybe with more practice).

    cheers

  5. I wouldn't know. Indoor training is illegal here in Arizona, so we're forced to ride outdoors year round. This, of course, is madness, especially with winter temps hovering in the 70's this week.......

Indoor training is illegal...I would have thought so in Utah or anywhere else where Mormons stifle freedom...and temps in the 70's? here in Australia, we used Celsius, we stopped using Fahrenheit about 1975 or so...
I was gonna ask how much 70F is in Celsius...but I just worked it out.
70-80 F equates to 21-27 Celsius...so I figure you are being facetious and making fun of those poor New Yorkers who open their doors to driving snow and smog that you need to cut thru with a chain-saw 😄

  7. I find the same thing with rollers. It's most likely that you're sitting in the same position as the other poster said.

My numb bum kicks in after about 20 mins and doesn't leave. I have micro stops occasionally to seek relief - off the seat to grab my drink bottle or change the cd, wipe sweat off etc.

I also set myself short targets and have a micro break after each one = 10 mins at 90 rpm to warm up, then 10 at 95, etc to 120 + then a cool down and I'm done - I then stagger inside to recover and hope and pray for a better day to get back outside on the road:o

Identify any freedom Mormons are stifling.

I must say that all of the fedoms I was expecting to hear about, this one never crossed my mind.

Only worthy members who want to attend the Temple must wear special undergaments. When appropriate, for example cyclng, they do not need to wear their garments.

The garments that are worn are a constant reminder to the covenents made and the respect for them. It is similar to the wearing a yarmulke.

Not all Momons have the privelege to wear the special garments. Those that choose, can wear proper underwear, whatever that means.

Are you good at pedaling standing up? If not you should practice this. It helps a lot to be able to stand up every 5-10 mins. The more you work on it the better you'll get. Sitting up and riding no hands helps too but this is much more difficult. Heavy wheels are the sweetness for the rollers. I use my Shimano R540's when riding inside and i can ride with no hands all day.

    Damn you!

After 10 days with temperatures in the -10 to +25 range...we finally warmed up to where the snow is coming down...HARD!

[censored]! it looks likes x-country skiing this afternoon after work.

Alienator, if you ever get up by the university...stop in the Green Dolphin bar and knock back a cold one and remember us poor roadies freezing in Ohio!

Hmmmm. I would do that if the Green Dolphin were still in business. I think the murder trial and associated death sentence related to the killing outside of the Green Dolphin some years ago, uhm, may have accounted for the Green Dolphin closing.

Still, I'll be sure to pop into a local establishment, sit at one of it's outdoor tables while wearing shorts and my Tivas, and throw back a Stella Artois or two while thinking about how earlier in the day I was nearly forced, on my bike ride, to zip up my short sleeved jersey. I promise that I'll sit there savoring a fine Belgian brew as I contemplate the irony of girls in Tucson wearing such short shorts and such skimpy tops in the middle of February, while people back East shiver and shovel snow.

  14. The dolphin closed, eh? I haven't been there since 1973 IIRC. Too bad. The joint used to rock.

I'll try and Gooogle up on what went down...any hints?

Yeah, southron Azirona in da winter time! I used to live there and spent a summer in Flag. My last vacation to Az was spent up in Cottonwood. That climb over Mingus was fun from both sides!

    Don't catch a cold, Alienator!

Oh yeah, it's now rained about a 1/2" topping of ice on that snow!

Well, when I googled it, I got one reference to caselaw on the murder of someone and a body found in, I think, a wash. The caselaw article didn't like it was going to have a beer list, so I didn't read it.

I also got a link to a story at a local TV station...I think in 2003...but again: no beer list, no read.

I'm orginally from Ohio, having moved from there to Tucson. I must say the riding here is muy better, and I don't say that with just the weather in mind. The scenery is amazing. The terrain is about as varied as terrain can get: lots of great climbs and lots of great rolling terrain. And if you happen to find yerself in flat terrain here, the odds are that it's not a wind-free day. I'm pretty amazed at how windy it is here.

Mt. Lemmon is, of course, a great climb, but even better I think and a lot more brutal is going west to east over Gates Pass. That direction is short, but it gets way steep at the top. Thing roll up and down nicely along the foothills, and as I found out a couple o' weeks ago, you can get a lot of climbing in on a ride from Tucson, through Oracle, to San Manuel....on the north side of Mt. Lemmon.

And while springtime on college campuses in Ohio was always nice with all sorts of, uhm, interesting things to look at, here in Tucson, at the U of Arizona, I'll be damned if everyday ain't like summer, with girls sportin' short shorts, skimpier tops, better tattoos.........hmmmmmm. It does appear that plastic surgery and the sale of silicon products to college age girls is quite abundant here.

  16. Where, in Ohio, are you from? I'm near Canton.

I trained when i was in Tucson. I remember the summer heat and carrying three bottles. I've over those roads and hiked/camped at Hutch's pool, etc. Good times...probably better that 30 years ahead of ya!

I still get to the warm spots when work and schedule permits!

    Sorry for the hijack!

I ride rollers (an old set Al Kreitler built way back when). I start out with a jersey over a t-shirt. After I start to warm up I sit up and take off the jersey while spinning. After a while you'll be good enough to change positions more on the bike.

Check your saddle position. Your rollers may be telling you that you've not quit got it dialed in yet.

Have not tried standing on the rollers but I will tomorrow night. And I'm also going to get the good shorts!! My wheels are 36-hole open pros, plenty of rolling weight!
    Thanks to everyone!

  18. This bike was just put back together so I may have a position problem. Tomorrow night befor I ride I'll look at things a little closer.

  19. Rather than trying to stand an pedal, which can lead to bouncing the bike off the rollers, try using the handlebars to help slide yourself front-to-rear on the saddle.

Also, practice sitting up and riding without hands. Do it in a doorway...it's actually pretty easy if you have the rollers set correctly to your bike's wheelbase.

Born in Dayton, grew up near there, then met a girl in Colorado and moved to her home in Kent, OH and got hitched. Hell, I even usta work for Stark Ambulance in Massillon and then Stark/Summit Ambulance.

Yeah, it is a bit toasty in summer and riding when it's 115 out is sub-optimal, but I gotta say that when I was back in Ohio in June, humid 86 deg. F weather sucked. The day my flight landed back in Tucson, it was 106, and if felt so good when I walked out of the airport into that....much better than the humidity of the midwest. It's sick, I know.
