Good road bike for a cheap price.

I have been looking for a road bike for some time now. I currently have a mountain bike. I have been wanting to get in the races. This is why i nedd a decent road bike. I was thinking of getting a trek 1200 but its $800. Can anybody help me out here?

look into giant's ocr line and also the specialized dolce sport
they are all about the same price..
the best bike for the $ is def. cann r500 for 950$

I love my 1200. Just traded in my old beater for it. The cann r500 is a nice bike but more expensive and more directly compares to the trek 1500 which is also a very nice bike. Another bike which you may see is the Giant OCR3, but personally I would stay away from the OCR3, it's SORA compontents are not all that great (same as Trek 1000)
