  1. Does anyone know of any outdoor shops that have a wide range of tents on display? I am looking at
buying a 2 man tent (poss Terra Nova Solar 2 or Voyager) or Macpac Minaret but want to see the
    tents up first.

And I want to buy in April when most of the tent shows don't start until the summer.

    Thanks James

Ask "yup" <[email hidden]> he/she is some sort of expert in Asda and I suspect Sainsbury and
    Morrisons tents.

  3. You don't state your whereabouts. BCH Camping in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and
Highbridge caravans in Highbridge, Somerset, both have a good selection of
tents on display. Not much good to you though if you're hailing from up
    North!

www.cheaptents.co.uk had both solar2 & voyager plus a dozen others erected inbdoors last time I was
there. They're in Warrington, and highly competitive pricewise. Ebayers are always paying more for
s/h tents than this lot charge for new!

There was a place over the other side of the road from Gaynors Sports in Ambleside that had a lot up
last summer. I think it might actually have been a tent showroom for Gaynors. Don't know if it is
still there now, may have been temporary. I think Taunton Leisure in Bristol (on the offchance you
live anywhere by there) might have had a Solar 2 up last time I was there. I can remember they had a
Solar 1 and an Akto up because I sat in them. Can't remember any of the shops in London having any
large tent displays when I did a tour of most of them around Xmas but I'm sure anyone will put one
    up for you.

Just thought, isn't there some kind of Outdoor Leisure show on at the NEC around March?

Well, ok April 2nd - 4th by the looks of it. They should have a few tents.

For those tents go to Covent Garden and try Snow and Rock (Macpac) and Ellis Brigham Terra Nova. But
look at the Hilleberg Nallo from Field and Trek. All of these stores are within a 5 minute walk.
    They all have web sites.

If we had a better idea of where you were. . .

Tisos in Leith have a small display - I'm sure they'd set one up for you if you asked in advance.

  8. Glen,

    wind your neck in !

    James,

You may like to visit the outdoor caravan & camping show at the Nec Birmingham
boatandcaravan.comboatandcaravan.com it's on around the end of Feb. I went last year and they had tonnes
of camping & hiking gear. Not all caravans and boats.

BTW, the previous reference was to a cheap one man tent for £30 quid available in Argos that has won
the hearts and respect of many seasoned hikers here on the group. I have not tested one out
personally but will be very soon.

    Hope this helps

    Ade

Firstly, Where are you? Then maybe someone could give you a local location where they can be viewed.
Not much point recommending a store in Invernes if you live around Southamton is it ;-)

Big Asda 4 miles in towards the city centre!

I bought my tent from Cheaptents for about 20%/40 quid less than YHA (RIP) were charging at the
time. If you are going to visit, check their stock and prices on their web site beforehand. I did
this and mentioned it to the staff and they charged me the website prices.

If they are in the same premises as they were a couple of years ago, they will be happy to put up
any tents that you want to look at and won't pester you for a quick decision.

  13. Thanks for the tips so far guys...

Am based in York so anywhere in the North is fine. Also willing to travel as get down to London
    a fair bit.

If you can get to London it will probably be worth it as all of the major stores are within a couple
of minutes walk from each other: Snow and Rock; Ellis Brigham; Field and Trek; Stanfords (maps and
always worth a visit). Snow and Rock have a display tents day on Sundays.

Alternatives: try Kendall; go to the Outdoor Show at the NEC.
