After reading many posts on this forum I was set to just take rest weeks as needed. However I recently purchased training and racing with a power meter and its sample plan had pre-scheduled rest weeks. So now I would like to see everyones opinions on rest weeks(similar to the ones in the book) Thanks, Matt

3 on, 1 off is good for me. The truth is that I can run the engine a little hot for a long time, but then I crash -- so the body will schedule its own rest week; however, recovering from such a crash takes a long time and you lose fitness.
Friel recommends a 2 on, 1 off for Masters riders.

I'm doing the Hunter 8 week TT plan, and this has week 4 and 8 as adaptation weeks, where it's pretty much recovery rides all week. The only problem I'm finding with this is adjusting my diet in the easy week.

Same here Catabolic. I'm still learning to force myself to take some planned downtime, even when I don't feel fatigued. It's hard when the weather is nice and the bike is calling your name.

That's what I should do at 46 years of age.

I have rest days instead of weeks. I have rest week too but just when I really lost motivation.

That`s great!😄 I don`t have problems whit resting. Sunny days when bike is calling but I don`t want to respond are more problematic!🙄

What does rest mean? RD never mentioned rest to me, except between intervals. Haven't had a rest since January, and I think I squeeze into the "senior" category.😄

I look forward to my little o' rest week.
I look at them the same as the other weeks. As part of the training. A time to get stronger, but yet prepare for the next three weeks of hell.😄
