I have the Timex Ironman 100L Speed+Distance, which I received as a gift. From what I've seen so
far, it works great. It maintains a signal very well, even on cloudy days, and though I have no
sophisticated means of checking, it "seems" accurate. What I use it for is to help maintain a slower
pace (I tend to start picking up my pace, which I do not want to do at this point) and to free
myself up to run aimlessly while still getting an accurate pace/distance record for my log. It is
certainly not a necessary gadget, but it sure is handy, and works well. My opinion only, or course.

Love my Timex unit. Takes a long time (about 5 minutes for me) to lock on before start; other than
that no complaints, aside from the occassional signal loss, which recovers 99% of the time. Along
with my HR monitor, it's a nice 1-2 punch in tracking my workouts. I had a very bad experience
(memory errors galore) with the data recorder and will be returning it this week, so don't waste
your money there.

I recieved the Garmin Forerunner 201 for Christmas. I have been real happy with it so far. The
accuracy seems to be good. Distances that I had previously clocked with my car odometer were very
close to the same. I prefer the Forerunner over the Timex, because it has more features in a smaller
package. I'm not knocking the Timex, it looks like a good product too.

Umm, unless you're standing under trees or something it should lock on faster than that. If you
stand *still* in the open and wait, it'll usually lock on in about 45 seconds.

Received one for Christmas. Love it. Locks on in less than a minute and is consistent. Also used it
on a 55 mile bicycle ride New Years Eve. Definitely gonna get hooked on it.

I have used the Timex S+D for 2 years and have been very happy with it. The data recorder was a bit
disappointing & I will be returning it to Roadrunner Sports. The best price for the Timex S+D is

I saw the initial reports on the Garmin unit and found it for $123.74 at onlinemarine.comcgiOpen ↗
local/SoftCart.exe/?E+scstore (MSRP is $160.00) At that price, I bought one for my wife to give me
for Xmas. I do miss having the HR readout of my Timex but much prefer having a complete unit on my
wrist. The Garmin has tons of features and is now my training watch of choice. I used it this past
weekend at the Disney 1/2 marathon and was very pleased with the custom display function which
allowed me to display: Current Pace; Distance; and Average Pace.

If I get a few spare moments, I'll write a more detailed review of the Forerunner 201. Based upon my
use of both products, the Garmin is far superior at about 1/2 the price of the Timex. Now, if they
can only get an integral HRM.
