Mark your calendars now for the kick-off weekend of the 2003 North Carolina Championship Cyclocross series (www.nccyclocross.net), taking place 25-26.October.2003 in Greensboro, NC. Held in beautiful Bur-Mill Park in Northwest Greensboro, this promises to be an exciting weekend, complete with a cyclocross skills clinic, swap meet, and of course the races! The clinic and swap meet are on Saturday, October 25, with the races following on Sunday the 26th.

The Cyclocross Skills clinic is being led by long-time A-series racer and Greensboro Velo Club member Peter Hymas. Mr. Hymas finished 4th overall in last year's inaugural Winter Cup against some of the nation's best riders, and also claimed 2nd overall in the hotly contested 2001 fall championship series. The clinic will run from 3PM until 5PM on Saturday, October 25, and will be based out of Shelter #6 at Bur-Mill park. There is no charge for the clinic, but space is limited to 30 riders. If interested, contact Dahron Johnson at: [email protected], or at: (336)-218-0892.

The Grand Prix Swap Meet will run from 2PM (noon) until 6PM on Saturday, October 25, and will take place in the parking area and grass of lower Bur-Mill Park. The swap meet will be held "trunk" or "boot" style. Bring chairs, tables, blankets, etc. Any bicycling related goods are acceptable. The swap meet is free to buyers, and a $2 dollar donation is requested from sellers to off-set permit fees. Pre-registration is not required.

The Greensboro Velo Club Grand Prix Cyclocross race-the weekend's main event-begins on Sunday, October 26 at 11AM, on an exciting course filled with fast descents, heart-thumping climbs, and demanding dismounts. Scheduled to race is two-time National Champion, and Greensboro resident, Lauren Trull. Ms. Trull has accumulated multiple National Championship jerseys both in this sport of cyclocross and also on the road-and she has only just turned 16! For a full race schedule, simply point your browsers to:www.cyclesdeoro.com/Cyclocross.htm. Registration forms can be found there, but because the series kick-off weekend is always a big one, online registration is recommended, and is available at: http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1022552.

This is going to be a great weekend, filled with fast racing, sweet deals, and some great spectating opportunities. Even if you don't race, make sure to bring your bikes, because there is plenty of great riding in the park, including the famous Owl's Roost Trail, described by Bicycling Magazine as "the most challenging urban mountain bike route in the country."
