GT Website in UK?

What did you search on?

I had one a few years back, also my first mtb. It was a pretty good
starting bike, but the 'triple triangle' frame is extremely rigid at
the back end, making my, er, back end rather sore after riding.

They are cheap, and fun, but it might encourage you to upgrade in a
year or two...

Thanks Nick. My choice is the Avalanche 2.0 disc or the Giant Terrago Disc
which is slightly more expensive. My LBS, whom I trust implicitly, are
recommending the GT over the Giant as a starter MTB so I was interested to
see your comments.

Anyone else any views or comparisons?

I have had an Avalanche for a number of years and it has caused me no
grief, if it had disc brakes I would still be riding it. I have just bought
(well the insurance has just bought, as I had my Marin ATB bike nicked) a
Giant XTC SE which is much more fun to ride but it has got Hydraulic Disc
Brakes and 100mm of travel on the forks which would make it better. I was
very tempted to get another GT but the Insurance agent (Wheelies) did not
deal in GTs. The Giant list price is £500.

I think you will be OK with either the GT or the Giant. I certainly would
not have a MTB that did not have disc brakes now.
