Oh wow....it's hard to pick. Any of the top four and the seafood one
look great. It would definitely be a place to visit a few times!

Perhaps that one person's recipe (who added it to the Wilki listing)
included the brown sugar but it isn't universal? No mention of it was
made on the show or menu. I can't imagine all that sugar in a savory
meal. Blech.

pancake itself.

I think the Wilki recipe is unusual then. I guess since Wilki is open
for anyone and everyone to add and edit entries it might not be the most
accurate?

I had a steak boxty at the Fado Irish Pub in Austin a few years ago.

When I made pancakes, normal everyday pancakes, I'd make them large, the
same size as the skillet. I would butter them and liberally sprinkle them
with brown sugar and then roll them up. One or two of these was all most
people could eat.

My daughter took this to a fine art...using nutellia instead of the brown
sugar.

back in The Netherlands. I think the

I had a boxty for the first time at an Irish pub in San Diego. It was
very nice but I don't remember which type I had.

Maybe I'll make one someday but I have too many other things on deck
right now. 🙂

I just had one for lunch today thanks to you. :-)

DH asked if I wanted to go to Thornton's Irish Pub for lunch today.
Of course I do, I need to try Boxty.
It opened about a year ago and we've talked about trying it sometime,
well, today was that sometime.

It's run by a couple of Irishmen whose dream was to bring a taste of
Ireland to the U.S.
The Executive Chef is Thomas Dowd. He's in the running to be on the
show Top Chef. It'll be interesting to see if he makes it to the
finals.

They also offer cooking classes. I can't wait until the next one
starts, I am sooo there.

I had the Boxty made with Jameson whiskey steak with mushrooms and
onion with a peppercorn gravy topped with an Irish cheddar.
They have quite an extensive whiskey selection.

Thanks for your compliment on the pictures.
DH had the Saturday steak and eggs special. I put it all up on my blog
if you are interested.

I don't see where it could be all that hard to make. I'm sure the web
is full of recipes. I think I'll try and wing one tomorrow morning.

Well, I tried making a boxty this morning. I'm less than thrilled.
I thought the recipes called for too much flour, but what do I know
from boxty.
The recipes basically call for equal amounts of mashed potatoes and
raw grated potatoes, flour, egg and milk.
First, for my taste, I'll use less flour next time and make them
thinner. I think mine were too thick.

2-3 inches in diameter and about 1/2 inch or so thick.
Or they are made in one large cake about 1/2 inch thick and
then cut in wedges. They are more like a bread sometimes
than a pancake. They are not thin like a crepe. Maybe this
is a modern fancy version made specially to be filled like
a crepe.

Yes, I did. They looked very thin, almost as thin as crepes.
The menu sounded really good. I wouldn't mind trying them.
But, as I said, they don't look anything like the traditional
boxty cakes I'll seen.
