I distinctly remember wearing the 80's equivalent of lycra in the early 80s
and getting passed by a young lad on a chopper - a chopper! I had done about
120 miles that day tho... - he was still going pretty well tho!

There's someone in Bradford who finishes well clear of last place in 10 mile
time trials on a chopper

Our local club held an "open 10" over one summer season.

In the spirit of fair play everybody rode the same bike.

A rubber pedalled, 28" wheel loop frame, rod braked,
single-speed freehweel black "cambridge bike", complete
with wicker basket.

IIRC the winner did a 27' 10' time.
