As others have already noted, usually marked on the pedal. Note that
some may not be R and L, but D and G (droit and gauche), though less
likely on SPuDs than Time/Look stuff, wot with them originating in France.
If you can't see any such marks it's still quite simple to work it out
empirically. The Left pedal is the only one that will fir on the left
crank, and the Right pedal the only one that will fit on the right
crank, so though you might guess wrong for the first attempt the second
is pretty much a sure thing! Note that the left crank (and pedal) use a
left hand thread, where you screw it the opposite way to usual to do it
up. If you try and fit R pedal to L crank it simply won't screw in:
abandon ship and try again with the correct pedal.
Pop a little grease on the threads before you start and it will make
undoing them at some point in the future much easier!
