  1. Hi, I am a road biker who recently purchased a Trek 3700 mountain bike to ride around with my kids. I'm worried I got the wrong size. The guy that was helping didn't seem that knowledgable and though I looked better on the 21 inch bike compared to the 19. I just got the bike and when I stand over the center bar I hardly have any room between the bar and my crotch. Is this a problem? A 19 may be too small, Am I okay with the 21?

On a related note, I didn't get an owners manual, is this common or should I have received one?

  2. No one?

    Are you 6'3" tall?

    6'0" tall?

    5'10" tall?

    5'8" tall?

    5'5" tall?

    5'3" tall?

    Something in between?!?

  4. I'm 6'1

And, what is the size of your current Road bike?

How long is the top tube AND how long is the stem?

  6. I think my road bike is a 54, but i'm not positive. It's been a few years.

  7. If you are 6'-1" and were fitted for a 19-21" mountain bike, your road bike is probably not a 54cm.

    Regarding your mountain bike size:
If you were properly fitted for a 21" and it feels comfortable to you while riding, then you really don't need much room between your crotch and the bar while standing. A bike is meant for riding, not standing over the top bar.

You need to buy a ruler ...

    1.0 inch == 2.54cm

If the frame is steel, then give the c-c measurement. If it is alloy, give the c-t measurement.

If the frame has a sloping top tube, then figure out the measurement where the nexus for a virtual top tube measurement would be ...

Measure the top tube (c-c), too.

Measure your stem's length on BOTH your Road bike & you MTB.
