I think the last time we spoke... we had a heated discussion about Mrs. Lawsen. Mrs. Lawsen is still
a [censored]... but that is another story.
I created the post after much morphine and vicadin. I wonder if some beers were involved, but to
tell the truth.... I don't remember much. Did I say that Mrs. Lawsen is still a [censored]? (watch the TV
commercial(s))
Ohh yes, the wrist had been operated on and the old feelings came back from previous surgery(s). I
must have got the group up and hit it hard. I must have been emotional due to the drug induced
euphoria. I love getting emotional.... it is so neat and friendly.
So now I have a nice 2.5" gash on the top of my wrist with 9 stiches zipper style. Frankenstien has
been brought up a few times... poor guy. That guy never gets a break. He and the Elephant Man must
hang out in a drinking stupor of depression and discuss the old times.
Anyway... the ass is back and the wrist has been re-sectioned. It was just just a mild retinacular
reconstruction and a sewing of flayed tendons. I got about 40 percent more space for the tendon(s)
to flow and even got a high-tech chicken fat grease to help the sliding process. I was lucky in
making the decision to visit the Kobe Clinic (Steadman-Hawkins Vail). If I had not done that, I
would be sitting with part of my ulna removed that would not have helped anything at all. The lesson
I suppose is: Not all MRI's are the same. (Randall Viola - The Hand/Wrist Specialist in the country)
I climbed 14 14ers this year, and about 20 13ers. My goal is to climb the rest of the 14ers as soon
as the wrist is good to go, but I find the 13ers to be much more technical and rewarding so who
knows what this winter/summer will bring. I hope some of you actually got to see the goat movie....

I still have the Giant and the Brisa. Both are for sale ONLY to qualified buyers. I just can't sell
to anyone. I might never buy a bike again, and these two are really tight....especially the Brisa.
So... the skibike will rule all for awhile. The doctor said 6 months so I am going for it. I suppose
I will pad up for extra security... the downtime from that type of surgery is long and hard. I am
willing to risk it one more time on the skibike, but I am not optimistic. I have a special seat!!!

The 14ers have been interesting. I have soled all I have climbed this year. I have done the hardest
ones. I don't rope on anything anywhere. I have passed many climbing parties on the decent and the
ascent as they are all roped up and scared. 14ers are very odd. The danger can be very acute, but
the actual situation seems OK. I hurt my ankle bad on Castle and had to take a month off. It was a
minor sprain at the time, but it was a heavy situation getting off the mountain (thank the makers of
trekking poles). The deception of Mother Earth really can grab you fast up there. (I visited the
emergency room after that one)
I have had the most incredibly scary times on Pyramid, Snowmass, and Maroon Peak. I climbed Pyramid
5 times this year. It is nice that I live at the base of the mountain. Pyramid has been my nemisis
this year. It wants to beat me, but it never does.... but I know it can at about any time. I have
been ran off 3 "tiny" 13ers this year that had my ice axe flaming and sparkling.
Randy ruled his race series this year. He raced sport in the 40-49 class. Next season he is racing
pro. He is sponsored by Rocky Mountain, Bell, Cliff, SIDI, etc. I am happy for him. He has done more
than anyone could have ever expected. I can't wait to see him work out the pros. Can you say Sea
Otter? Dang old man!
Well.. what the hell else is going on...? The FOES is still the best skibike on the planet. The Line
skiboards are tight. Buttermilk opens on Saturday, so maybe I will go. Probably be Sunday.
Still building high-end computers. Still working my great, but low-paying county job. Still taking
A LOT of time earned off... hehe. Still a cantankerous, compassionate [censored]... no pun intended

down roads looking for cops. I WANTED them to try. At one point towards the end, I was just
willing to run. I thought (and sort of still think) that I CAN outrun radar, helicopters,
radios, and anything else they wanted to throw at me. The Hayabusa had me feeling like a God. I
am too irresponsible to have that bike... but after 10,000 miles without a throw... I was
feeling pretty randy.
I will never forget that feeling. The feeling of not caring about cops or ANYTHING for SOOOOOO long.
I did what I wanted like a bad sci-fi movie. The road was mine at any speed I desired.... and it was
like that for about a year without a ticket or a follow. I am lucky I exited the right ramp and sold
that sucker... thanks Ebay. God I want another one.
I don't miss mountainbiking at all. Maybe I was never a mountainbiker. It all seems so foreign to me
now. It seems like a ride without a goal. I sort of like the goal set in climbing a mountain. I hope
someday I can ride again. Maybe at that point I will be happy to have no goal in the exercise.
Of course, that takes nothing away from the riders out there. Maybe one day I will ride again....
but it won't be in 2004. I am happy that my mind rationalized everything out so well.
