Hit - by another cyclist!!!

Sorry to hear that Tom - as one who has one bike in dry

I had a close shave with a bloke on a bike on my commute
last Tuesday. At the bottom of a fast downhill, BOB suddenly
left the pavement on the right hand side and headed (without
looking) for the cycle route (actually another pavement, but
painted with bike symbols) on the left hand side. I could
see we were on a collision course and, too late to slow
down, I shouted ''Bike behind!" at which he swerved right as
I tried to pass outside, then left as I tried to go inside.
We only avoided clashing by a couple of inches.

Maybe I shouldn't have shouted anything, and just passed him
on the outside?

Well, at least you've used up your bad luck for the rest of

The bike cover on my insurance policy actually covers me for
events like that. At least... I'm pretty sure it does.

Although they don't help with slowing down the bike, I've
found that having really squeaky brakes is a great way to
get yourself noticed!

My bikes are on my M&S household policy, but I don't know if
it covers accidental damage or just theft. I'm going to call
soon and find out...

Thinking there was no serious damage to my bike I sent the
anonymous other bloke on his way, so no chance of making a
claim against him.

I'm just throwing the bones and boiling up the entrails-in-chicken-
blood right now to move your bad luck to someone else? Who'd
be your first choice for someone in this group to get it in
your place :-)

It's not really all bad anyway: you have a cast-iron excuse
to get a new frame for example. I presently have to destroy
at least 3 bikes before I can justify that to myself.

Well it seems there may be a ray of hope after all.

My Marks& Spencers house contents policy does cover me for
accidental damage, so they are willing to compensate me for
the damage.

Just have to go through the process now of getting the
damage assessed and sending a report etc, and getting an
estimate for replacement.

It was a Paul Donohue frame, but there's the possibility
of using another frame builder. So, any recommendations,
for a fast Audax/light touring frame supplier. Dave Yates,
Chas Roberts?

Although they may of course, end up insisting that the frame
gets repaired with a new top tube and down tube.

Following a minor crash, I have had these two tubes
replaced, costing less than a new frame.

Happened to me last night - there's a blind intersection on
my way home, and I tinkled my bell as loudly as I could and
slowed, knowing the risks, but this cyclist came thundering
out, without slowing and t-boned me.

Now that's not nice at all - I've only ever seen one
Donohue, and it was absolutely lovely, you must be gutted.

I was luckier, the only damage to me was the front brake
lever got snapped off in the accident, and although I've
managed a bodge on it, I've not seen replacement levers for
Magura 33s anywhere. Bit of a blow.

There was a tragic case in Norwich a few years back when two
cyclists collided on a cycle path, knocking one into the
road where he was hit and killed by a car. The cycle path is
very narrow and only just allows enough room to pass, let
alone any safe margin. The path runs on the raised verge and
there's room to widen it but nothing has been done.
