Damsel in dis Dress said:I know how you feel about WalMart, but if you go through even half as much
yogurt as I do, shopping there occasionally can save you a bundle.
Making your own saves even more! :P
I just made my second GALLON of yogurt in about 5 weeks, and it's so
much better and thicker than the Dannon that I'll never be happy with
store-bought again. I used my last cup of Dannon for starter for the
first gallon so now it only costs the price of a gallon of whole milk
for a full gallon of yogurt (here, about $3.29). Can't beat that with
a stick!
We can no longer imagine a day without yogurt. As soon as the last
quart is opened, Gunny brings home a gallon of milk for me to make
more. I let it set up and work for 24 hours before dividing it into
the quart Dannon containers I saved, then refrigerate. It's so thick
and yummy!
Thanks once again to PoohBear and Pastorio for the tips on making your
own! It is definitely going to be a tradition in our home. I suppose,
as we near maintenance, I'll just start making it with low-fat milk,
instead of whole.
