How do people run their Gazzes?

it's too bad your question actually makes sense because my first thought
upon seeing the thread title was that 'people run their gazzes round and
round, round and round, round and round...'

i'm in that kinda mood again today

I've got a Halo Contra so I wont post in your poll. Traditionally on
mountain bikes if you have identical tyres front and rear then you run
them in opposite directions.

I think since the Gazz is a down hill tire by running it in the
recomened direction you get the most braking traction for going down
hill.

I have a Kenda Collossol on my 26. Its tread definitely gives more
downhill braking traction with the directional arrow.

I run my Gazz the wrong direction! :p
Why? Beacuse I mounted it wrong the first time, and then I cut down all
the little knobs on the left side so it would fit my frame.

Then after a while I noticed it was mounted the wrong direction, but I
dont want to cut down all the knobs on the right side, so basicly i´m
just ignoring it.😉

I think because the tires are designed with very high RPM's in mind, the
direction would matter on bikes.

I doubt very highly you would actually notice a difference on a
unicycle.

I ran my gazz backwards for a long time. I rebuilt my wheel a couple
months ago and have had it on the "right' way since. I can't say i
notice too much difference but maybe i should pay attention a bit
more.

yea, the direction only matters if youre going fast and taking corners,
correct?

i dont think it makes much difference on a cycle

I have always run my Gazz in the direction the arrow points. I have
never tried running it backwards only because I'm too lazy to swap it
around.

The theory is that running the Gazz backwards will give you more
traction on steep downhills when you are backpedaling hard or using the
brake. I don't know how true that is with the Gazz. The Gazz doesn't
have an extreme directional tread like some tires.

Also of concern is mud clearing. Running some tires backwards may not
clear mud from the tread as well as when running them forwards. That
would depend on the tire and the tread. I don't know how much the Gazz
would be affected by this.

For a short trial you could just reverse your seat. Heed funny pedals
though.

I can attest that backwards gazz doesnt make any problems with mud build
up. I dont have that much clearance with a 24 inch yuni frame but it was
never a problem. Even when i used to live in soggy New England.

Actually I think the Gazz is a downhill *racing* tire. That means
minimal braking and maximal control needed in handling. So the tread
pattern is probably based on handling first. That's high-speed handling,
so don't know how much of an effect it has on us at unicycling speeds.
Based on all the posts above this one, I don't think it matters very
much for us.

it's on backwards because that's how it went on that time (I had no idea
until I read your post, as it's not something I check)

it still rubs the frame, i've only ridden that once since NY and haven't
really looked at the tire problem
