about that sort of time. depends (in part) how motivated you are... depends what you mean by VO2max wattage (the power at the end of a VO2max test, or the minimum power required to elicit VO2max)

lets say minium watt to get to vo2max?
Say eventually my target is to have my vo2max at say 400 watt when i weigh aa looottt more then now, how many minutes should i be able to pull it (fully motivated) before i'll know its my vo2max?

as my old dad would say: "how long is a piece of string?"
There isn't a specific answer to your question, it varies from person to person, and due to a whole host of other factors.
You're best off setting a goal that is specific, for e.g., do a MAP test (see my article at cyclingnews) or just go all-out for 5-mins, then see how you improve (or not) with your training

Hi Ric,
I just clicked on your URL to see if you are giving any commentary on the TdF this year, it seems not; but I do see that your web page is offering what we might call "retro coaching services" 😄 ...

I've read (from timan here on the forum I think it was) that 25 - 30 mins is the maximum accumulative time the average experienced roadie can spend in Level 5 (VO2Max) per session...... that's where the 5 x 5 interval workout comes from I imagine
The general answer is 6 minutes.
However as mentioned it varies from person to person.

and varies for each person too. Since VO2 Max can be attained at various power outputs, the time taken to do so varies depending on how hard you ride (as long as it's hard enough to reach VO2 Max).
I have read that 8 minutes is the max but I think if you were being chased by a Rhino you could do 10.

I do a local 8K TT at VO2Max for almost the entire distance. About 9 minutes at V02Max, then 30 seconds short rest (downhill) and another 1.5 minutes at VO2Max.
I can agree with the max accumulative time comment above. I start to get cramping in my calves at about that much accumulated VO2Max even if it is across 2-3 different sessions with some resting.
