  1. Well, I'm really looking at doing something else as a career, and I'd really
like to know what steps it takes to become a PT? I'm in great shape, and I
love to help others with exercising (have been motivating co-workers that
ask and friends for years, now). How does one get started in such a
    profession?

It's like being a hooker but instead of a street cornner, you just walk
down to the gym, stick it out, and start pimpin'.

Google "personal trainer certification" and read. Also look through the
archives of this group via http://groups.google.com or similar and read
past discussions. I asked a while back and the NSCA CPT was recommended
so that's what I did. You can buy the study materials, work on them by
yourself, take the test, and if you pass, that's it. You can also take
classes, and some other programs have a weekend "convention" format,
    I've heard.

  5. The first thing you need to do is get certified. There are dozens of
certification agencies, but you want to go with one that is well known
in the industry. Personally, I recommend the ISSA, but ACE is also
good, as is the ACSM, and several others.

Here are some sites you can check out:

Next, you need to decide if you are going to train in a gym, a private
studio, or in your client's homes. I have trained in several gyms, as
well as in my client's homes, and I find working with people at home is
more enjoyable, more profitable, and less of a political headache than
    working in a gym.

    Good luck!

You would love to help lazy, fat, yeast infected ladies workout and
complain every 5 seconds about how hard it is to lift 2LB dumbells?
That sounds fun to you? Your better of being a used car salesman.

  7. Steve,
To get certified, simply send the proper licensing agency every dollar
you have. Send ME all your money, and I'll send you your license.
