how to remove broken BB?

With most threaded things, once the head pops off, the thread is no
longer under tension and fingers are enough. Remove the other side and
try fingers or a small pick to turn it. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Will try that when the replacement arrives. With a flange-ectomy, it
still seems ridable, so I won't rush to get it out.

Migweld the axle to the bearing outer, turn axle

Or remove the other side, insert a very large bolt with lock washers
and a couple of nuts to lock it down on the cup - turn the bolt with a
wrench to remove the cup.

I endorse this product and/or service.

But I have had this fail with a badly cross-threaded BBs which has
rusted into the shell (snapped a 9/16 stainless bolt!).
