Huffy computers

That sounds like a trip down memory lane, are they still manufactured with big green and yellow buttons? Had a computer like that many a year ago but something *very wrong* happened to it..

No, modern Huffys are small and black with a single silver button on the
near side.

I think you will probably find that it is like the old( Current?) Casio
calculators. Under the black blob is everything, but not everything is
connected (aka a wire inserted from the relevant bit on the chip to the
outside.

So basically you will want a precision controlled milling machine that
can etch away to black blob to expose the bits on the chip to be linked out.

Probably cheaper to buy a VDO (?) which I think has all those but
nogradient meter.

To make a different LCD for each model would be expensive. To use the
same LCD for many models would be cheaper. Chances are that the micro
hidden under the LCD only does a few things and those extra segments
on the LCD are probably not even connected.
